One of the most sustainable ways to grow in Scripture is through a weekly study rhythm — not just daily devotionals, but a structured, slightly deeper engagement with a passage or topic once a week. Weekly study allows you to slow down, sit with a text longer, and develop real understanding rather than just impression.
The problem most people run into is finding structure. What do you study? How do you do it? Where do you find lessons? This guide gives you a free, repeatable framework you can use every week indefinitely — powered by Life Bible Study as your primary tool.
The Weekly Bible Study Framework
This framework is designed for a 45–60 minute weekly study session. It works for individuals studying alone, couples studying together, or small groups of 3–10 people. Each week follows the same structure with a different passage.
Open With Prayer and a Quick Review
Start with a brief prayer asking for understanding and openness. Then spend a few minutes reviewing last week's passage and application: Did you do what you said you'd do? What happened? What did God show you? This simple review builds accountability and reinforces what you've learned.
Read the Passage Together
Read this week's passage out loud — twice if possible. First reading: take in the big picture. Second reading: listen for what stands out. After reading, go around (if in a group) and share one word or phrase that caught your attention. No explanation needed yet — just name what struck you.
Observe — What Does It Say?
Work through the passage together using observation questions: Who is speaking? Who is the audience? What is the key action or teaching? What words are repeated? What questions does the passage raise? Don't look anything up yet — stay in the text itself. Write down your observations.
Open the Life Bible Study Devotional
Open the passage on Life Bible Study and read through the devotional together — context, big idea, life application, and reflection questions. This gives you the historical background and expert insight without requiring a commentary library. The reflection questions are especially useful for group discussion.
Apply — What Will You Do This Week?
This is the most important part. Each person identifies one specific, actionable application for the coming week. Not "I should trust God more" — but "I will [specific action] by [specific day] in response to what this passage says about [specific truth]." Write it down. Share it with the group. You'll report back next week.
Close With Prayer
Pray together for one another's specific applications. If in a group, break into pairs for more personal prayer. End with a brief group prayer thanking God for his Word and asking for the courage to live it out.

For Small Groups: A Few Extra Tips
- Assign the passage before you meet. Ask everyone to read it twice during the week. Those who come having already read it engage differently — more deeply, more specifically.
- Keep the application personal, not theoretical. "Christians should be more generous" is not an application. "I will give $50 to [specific person or cause] by Friday" is.
- Let the devotional do the context work. Open Life Bible Study together on someone's phone or laptop. The context section alone is worth the five minutes.
- Don't skip the review. Accountability is where transformation actually happens. The question "how did last week's application go?" is the most important one in the whole session.
